International Workshop "Current Trends of Linguistic Research of Indigenous Languages in Indonesia"

Aims

The aim of this workshop is to bring together researchers working on indigenous languages in Indonesia, to share information with each other, and to inform and motivate students or researchers who are contemplating or planning research in this area.

There are more than 600 languages in Indonesia, but many are becoming endangered due to language shift to Bahasa Indonesia and/or a more dominant regional language.

The unprecedented speed of the decline of local languages has inspired numerous projects of language documentation and conservation, and this workshop will focus on reporting the situation at present and discussing what has been achieved. We will also outline some of the interesting linguistic features recently found in languages there. We hope that the discussion will prove useful for students and junior researchers and may inspire them to conduct field research in this fascinating country.
